As a student, my fascination with Asian history sparked a determination to contribute to constructive relations between the U.S. and countries in the region. After a rewarding career in business and government throughout the Indo-Pacific, these posts will share some insights on how regional problems may be resolved for the mutual benefit of all. Grounded in the belief that 'those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,' Wide Fountain—named after the building that housed the first American trading company in China over 180 years ago— will lean on history to inform our current circumstances. The forum begins with an exploration of what I refer to as the 'Ye-Xi Clique'—a previously unexamined (and unidentified) network in China that I believe set in motion a series of events that created significant challenges for many nations and gave China a reputation it would prefer to avoid. By shedding light on this clique and its operational methods the aim is to bring an end to its influence and allow for a restoration of peace and prosperity. Wide Fountain is an effort to uncover the truth and well-meaning subscribers from around the world, especially China, are encouraged submit feedback and suggest additions or improvements to this work. After all, we are all in this together. Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and publication archives.
